The story
Why I built Decoratly
I started Decoratly in November 2023 with one question: what if you could see a room the way you want it before spending any money on it?
I'm a software developer from Poland. I studied Computer Science and Automation & Robotics at a technical university, and I've been drawn to the place where software, automation and AI meet ever since.
The idea came from a problem I kept running into: it is hard to picture what a room will look like once you change it. You can scroll through hundreds of pieces of furniture, save boards on Pinterest or hire a designer, and there is still a gap between imagining a new space and actually seeing it. I wanted to close that gap.
So Decoratly works on your own room. You upload a photo, pick a style, and see a redesign of that same room in about 30 seconds. Instead of guessing whether a style, a furniture layout or a renovation idea will work, you can look at it first.
I don't want it to be a machine for pretty AI pictures. What I care about is helping people make better decisions about their homes with less guesswork, whether they're redecorating a bedroom, planning a renovation, getting a place ready to sell, or just curious what their space could become.
Building it has meant constant experimenting: trying different AI models and workflows, and changing things based on how people actually use the app. It is the part of the work I enjoy most.
Decoratly is still a small, independent project and I still run it myself. My aim is to make AI interior design something anyone can use, so that planning a home becomes more visual, simpler and a bit more fun.

Who makes it
Built and run by one person
Decoratly is made by Kamil Uhryn, a developer from Poland who launched it in November 2023. It is an independent product, not a marketplace or a design agency, and there is no team of designers behind the screen. Support emails are read and answered by the same person who builds the app.
How it works
What happens when you upload a photo
You upload a photo of a room from your phone or computer. Decoratly detects the room type, you choose one of 75+ styles (or describe your own), and you decide what may change: furniture, layout, wall color, flooring. An AI image model then generates a redesigned version of your room. A background quality check catches broken results and regenerates them before you see them.
From there you can compare before and after, edit specific things (paint a wall, remove an object, change the lighting), chat with an AI designer that can see your room, match colors to real paint brands, and look up similar furniture. The full list is on the free room designer page.
Honest limits
What Decoratly can't do
- -It shows you how a room could look. It is not a floor plan, a measurement tool or construction drawings, so measure and check with a professional before you build or buy.
- -It works from one photo, so anything the photo doesn't show (a wall behind the camera, ceiling height) is inferred, not known.
- -AI images can get details wrong: an extra chair leg, a window that moved. Results are checked automatically and broken ones are regenerated, and you can re-roll any result yourself.
- -Shop the Look links go to Google Shopping and Amazon searches. It is not a retailer and it doesn't sell furniture.
- -It is English only and runs in the browser. There is no native iPhone or Android app.
Pricing
Pay once, no subscription
Trying it is free: 1 design, no signup and no card. Free results carry a small watermark and come at web resolution. Paid access is a one-time payment for a set period (for example $9.99 for 30 days) and nothing renews. Payments go through Stripe, so Decoratly never sees your card number, and every purchase has a 30-day money-back guarantee. The full terms are in the refund policy.
